Bretts Back
Ex Suede frontman previews new LP with a one off special show
Brett Anderson will preview his new LP 'Wilderness', which was recorded and mixed in 7 days and features only voice, strings and piano, this Monday, July 7 at London’s Mermaid Theatre, where he will be accompanied onstage by cellist Amy Langley and special guest Emmanuelle Seigner, both of whom feature on the album.
According to the press release 'Widerness' is "the most haunting record you will hear all year. Detailing a love affair, the record displays all the heightened emotions of love and thus is joyous, bleak, euphoric, and reflective – and very beautiful. It’s a record that is intense and stands outside of the mainstream and is all the better for it. Like all classic albums, it’s an album Brett Anderson had to make at this point in his life" ..and why not, however we will not be able to make our own opinion about the LP until the autumn when it's released.

Bloomin' Nora! It's the Kiwis, Kora!
NZ's five piece invade the UK
Kiwi dub-funk-breakbeat-rockers Kora hit the UK this month to promote the imminent release of their new album 'Kora' and forthcoming single 'Flow'. Having heard the single, Culturedeluxe can confirm their just on the right side of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers with more than a little spark of Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder, which must make them an act worth catching if you can.
The five piece play The Larmer Tree Festival (July 19th) , Birmingham Carling Academy 2 (20th July), Edinburgh Cabaret Voltaire (July 21-22), Sheffield Carling Academy (23rd July), Bristol Carling Academy (24th July), London Shepherds Bush Empire (25th July) and WOMAD (July 26th). I hope the band like Carling ...

Stricken City Debut Single and London Shows Announced
They're Gallic...not galling!
Stricken City are Rebekah Raa (vocals and Korg), Iain Pettifer (guitar) Espen Dahl (bass) and Kit Godfrey (drums) and are causing quite a stir among cyberspace with the strong take on Franco-Americana that is brand new single 'Tak o Tak / Bardou' released by Adventures Close to Home on July 28th.
Both sides feature top of the range alternative rock be it the pacey Yeah Yeah Yeah's-inspired 'Tak o Tak' or the considered, melodious drone of 'Bardou' on which you could quite readily expect to hear Kim Gordon pop up on lead vocal.
In the meantime, check out the video for 'Tak a Tak' below and, if you like it (and you live in London), get along to one of these gigs.

Attic Lights Say Farewell to Wendy
...and could this be their next single?
Ever quick to jump on any quirky angle to promote their new wares (so far they've invited fans to chat to God through their website and have roped David Gest in to do extra vocals on their new single), Glasgow's Attic Lights now appear to be using the recent resignation of Scottish Labour Party Leader Wendy Alexander to promote the track 'Wendy' which insiders are tipping to be their next single. Quite right too as it's the best example of Teenage Fanclub-style indie pop-rock since the famous Glaswegian foursome themselves.

Latitude 2008 Preview
Things to do in suffolk when you're dead...
As I started writing this, thousands of people were stood with trench-foot on a giant farmer’s estate in Somerset munching on £60 plates of broccoli and watching Jay-Z. Well, perhaps I exaggerate, but you get the general idea…
But the farcical kafuffle (for let us bring that word back) that surrounded 2008’s year’s Glastonbury Festival of Arts has been palpable; Lost Vagueness organisers doing a runner – shouting ‘sell-outs!’ to the Eavis family along the way, the worst ticket sales for years, and the huge collective sigh of disappointment when a corporate-friendly, middle-aged rapper/chief executive was announced as a headliner.
This same time last year, faced with the grim possibility of no tickets to the overpriced Pilton Farm, I upped sticks and trotted along to Latitude Festival in Suffolk instead, a festival that shares a lot in common with its Somerset counterpart. It’s set within beautiful woodland – which inevitably takes on a mystical, ethereal presence once psychedelic narcotics take hold, and hosts quirky arts, poetry, theatre and literature tents in addition to the usual smattering of bands, comics and um… multi-coloured sheep.
A feeling that has growing over the last couple of years amongst festival-goers seems to be a yearning for a smaller, cheaper and more diverse festival than Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds and V. This year’s sales seem to indicate that it’s forced many fans to looking further afield; with the posh, trendy types heading to Spain’s Benicassim and Serbia’s Exit, while the rest of us fill the void at the hundreds of relatively new music festivals across the UK.
Latitude is one such festival, now in its third year, this year’s incarnation sold out for the first time in its history. Interpol, Sigur Ros and Franz Ferdinand top a festival, that also features Bill Bailey in the comedy tent, counter-culture messiah Irvine Welsh in the Literary tent and everyone’s favourite prog-rockers The Mars Volta on the second stage.
But it’s the impressive support for new music, with half a dozen music arena’s, several of which are hidden within the woods, huge variety of interesting things and refreshingly relaxed c*nt-free atmosphere that has already nestled the Latitude’s place amongst the hearts of many a festival-goer.
Weekend tickets have sold out, but if you fancy grabbing a day ticket to this great little gem of a festival, that runs from 17th – 20th July, at Henham Park, Southwold, head on over to www.latitudefestival.co.uk.

Dizzee Rascal Set For Number One Slot
Who'd have thought it?
Dizzee Rascal looks set to top the singles chart this week with sales of 'Dance Wiv Me', his first for his own new Dirtee Skank label, currently 5000 ahead of last week's number one by Ne-Yo. His previous best was 'Stand Up Tall' which reached number 11 in 2004 and now it looks like he'll be joining Wiley in the top flight as grime finally hits the commercial chord it always looked likely to.
Dizzee will have to fend off a fierce attack from novelty euro-dance act Basshunter who follow up the number one 'Now You're Gone' with 'All I Ever Wanted' and presumably another video featuring nubile young women in questionable garb.
Elsewhere, Glastonbury performances from MGMT and Jay-Z have seen their sales soar with the former's 'Electric Feel' entering the Top 20 and re-entries for both '99 Problems' and 'Numb' for Mr Z who, reports suggest, proved critics wrong with his Saturday night headline slot.
Coldplay, meanwhile, will keep a tight grip on the top of the album chart as middle-aged iPod recipients keep downloading 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends' in their thousands.
